The Bruin Open (or BO, as we fondly call it) is a 2-day
tournament set on the beautiful campus of UCLA and hosted
by the UCLA Badminton Team as our biggest fundraiser and,
more importantly, as a means for the badminton community
to come together to celebrate the sport through friendly
competition and social gathering.
The
Open was initiated on January 31, 2004, with roughly 85
entries and 8 new courts at the then recently renovated
Student Activities Center (formerly Men's Gym).
The
Fall 2004 Open (our second hosting, Oct 16-17, 2004) saw
the entry pool size grow to more than double the first.
Approximately 180 people participated, majority of whom
played 3 events.
The
Fall 2005 Open (Oct 22-23, 2005) again brought in record
numbers with 191 participants and a new flight, Funky Doubles.
In addition, all participants helped raise $275 for the
American Red Cross's Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund,
which came from 10% of all BO2005 profits. |
