Hey there everyone! Be sure to come out to the general meeting this week on Thursday November 12th. We will be providing detailed information regarding the upcoming health fair and present its lay-out. Come out and sign up to volunteer at this humongous event! See you guys at the meeting :]

Hi Everyone! This is Jenny, and I will be VCH's new website coordinator, taking over for Kha. I will be keeping you guys updated on all the upcoming VCH events, and be sure to come out and volunteer! I'm looking forward to an awesome upcoming 2009-2010 academic year with you guys! :)

Just a friendly reminder, go to tomorrow's health fair. Or I'll break your legs. =D

Our Kid's Health Carnival will come up this month, as well, so keep both days free.

That is all, have fun!

Hope you guys had a swell Spring Break, because it's time to get serious for Spring Quarter!

Most importantly, we have a pressing issue that needs immediate attention. As you may know, before we rebooted VCH some three or four years ago, it was known as VRAC. One of the former members of VRAC, Matthew, has been diagnosed with leukemia, and is in desperate need for a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. For this reason, the Vietnamese organizations at UCLA and many other campuses are hosting bone marrow drives in order to help find a donor. We need as many people to register as possible in order to maximize the chances of finding a match. Our bone marrow drive will be held April 7th and April 8th, with SWC hosting a separate bone marrow drive on April 9th. Tell your family and friends as well, even if they aren't Vietnamese. Asians can match with other asians, regardless of whether it is Japanese, Chinese, or Korean.

VNLC is hosting a film festival from April 2nd to April 12th, being held at various campuses across Southern California. It will come to UCLA on the 9th.

We will have our quarterly Health Fair on May 3rd this time, so mark your calendars and prepare to help those in need! It is planned to be held at the Nguoi Viet Conference Room.

For the first time ever, we will be hosting a Kid's Health Carnival. We will teach children about healthy living, such as nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. It will be tons and fun. This is set for May 23rd.

Last, but not least, our BANQUET is planned to be held on May 30th. Reward yourselves on a year of hard work with semi-formal dining, provided by the staff of VCH. We will look back on the year and maybe give out extra rewards!

So, have fun guys, and have a great quarter!

Hey guys, internship seems to be going well! Hope you all are excited, for this Sunday will be a health fair, co-hosted with APA Health Care! It'll be from 8AM to 12PM at the Nguoi Viet conference room (across the street from Asian Garden Mall). If you need a ride from UCLA, you must show up at Ackerman Turnaround at 7AM. Remember: Dress code is professional, with black bottoms. Hope to see you guys there!

January 08th, 2009 08:53 PST by Kha Chu

Internship applications are open! Get one and follow the instructions! Deadline is January 18. That's in 10 days, so get cracking!

January 04th, 2009 21:23 PST by Kha Chu

Happy New Year, guys! I hope you're all excited about the coming quarter, because we'll be having our annual booth at the Tet Festival, socials, and the start of our internship project!

But let's not jump ahead of ourselves, when you can look at pictures of Vietnamese Community Health Fair.

Done? Okay, let's get to the Tet Festival: we've used our game for the past three years or so and thought we'd have some fun coming up with a new game, so we'll be devoting some meeting time to come up with one with your input.

Biggest news is internship, led by our IVP An: if you guys want to get to know us better and/or want to get on staff for next year, do sign up when we start the application process! It will be a fun experience, and it'll introduce you guys to the inner workings of running a UCLA organization. If this interests you, stay tuned!

That's about it for now. Have a good winter quarter, guys!

Hi everybody! It was a triumph! I'm making a note here: Our Vietnamese Community Health Fair was a HUGE SUCCESS. It's hard to overstate our satisfaction.

For those who went, we couldn't have done it without you, so pat yourself on the back and be glad we helped our community. For those who didn't, we have more health fairs coming up in the year, so watch out!

Anyway, keep this Tuesday's dinner free, because we'll be driving everyone to PINK'S HOT DOGS and having hot dogs of legendary fame. We have a Site visit on Saturday, and on the Saturday of the week after that, we'll have our hypertension training session, led by Red Cross. Sign up will be up shortly, so if you're interested in helping more people at site, sign up when the time comes! So, have fun you all, and have a good time.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic summer. I know I did. For those of you who missed it, Michelle, Kaylyn, and I had oodles of fun at the UVSA Leadership Camp at Camp Cuyamaca. It was more than just fun and games, though, it taught us a lot about how to make our VSA better. But screw them, we're using that advice to make VCH better. I'm not the picture taking kind of guy, so just take our word for it.

As for updates, we have a health fair in the works for October (next month, guys!), so look out for that. Our health site is back on, and it's at a new location, the Saigon City Supermarket on Brookhurst and MacFadden. Our first general meeting is this month on the 30th at 5PM, so keep your schedules open. I mean it. You better, or I'll find you. Meetings this year will be bimonthly, meaning every other week. Don't worry, just because we're meeting less often than last year, that doesn't mean that we'll have less things to do. We'll be just as busy as ever, just focused more on the fun stuff.

Well, that's a wrap from me. I better see you at our first general meeting.

Hello people. I forgot to note that our Westminster Health Fair with APHC was a success! We served about 100 clients, helping them with glucose, cholesterol, and hypertension tests. For new updates, we're currently planning another health fair for June 1. If you missed our previous two, attend this one! Help us out by emailing us!

Someone called the old layout unprofessional. Pfft. I'll show him unprofessional! I made a new layout with brand-spanking-new CSS-ness. For those without an affinity for computers, that basically means this site is easier to code for me. Note that with the content able to fill all available space, we have a wider looking layout. The layout works best on resolutions over 1024x768. (Most computers nowadays have much larger resolutions. And those without don't matter.)

So, here's the story about the org so far: we are currently planning a May health fair with Red Cross, which is our main event Spring Quarter. In April, APHC will hold its own health fair, which we will help plan. Internship applications are closed, and we have seven of you competing for glory. Tet Festival came and we had a booth shared with VCH, doing the nutrition game we did last year. I think we taught a bunch of kids about eating healthy foods.

So that's it for updates for now. Be sure to attend next meeting on the 19th.

New year, new quarter, same, if not better, Vietnamese Community Health-ing action. This year, we'll have bimonthly meetings on Week 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. Week 9 will be a fun social: a scavenger hunt around Little Saigon! Blow off studying for a day and instead wander around the largest concentration of Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. Our general meetings will have the following topics: Introduction with Med Student Q & A (Week 1), Hypertension training (Week 3), Vietnamese lessons (Week 5), and a crash course on medical insurance (Week 7). Fun stuff. I'm serious.

Anyway, besides general meetings, we have our bimonthly health site visits, so be sure to attend meetings and sign up. We'll be bringing volunteers this quarter, so you can help the people of Little Saigon. We'll also have a booth at the UVSA Tet Festival, as well as plan for another health fair we'll be holding next quarter.

Also importantly, we'll be having internships. Some will enter. Only some less will emerge victorious. Or maybe all will, it depends. I have posted the Internship Applications. Be sure to finish it by the deadline of 5PM on February 1st.

The Little Saigon Health Fair was a success! Over a hundred people showed up for our services. We had tons of dental students giving screenings, what looked like an entire massage parlor, glucose and cholesterol tests, hypertension tests, and various info booths such as breast cancer awareness and Nhan Hoa Health Clinic. Up on the page, we have pictures of our fabulous staff and volunteers! Once I get my camera's USB cord, I'll upload a good 30 or so more.

The UCLA/UCI jointly run health fair, the Little Saigon Health Fair, will be taking place on Saturday, this weekend! The LSHF will have dental screenings, blood/glucose testing, hypertension screenings, massages by Advanced Beauty College, and various other services!* For the low, low, low, LOW price of lim(x->0) [(sin(x))^2]/x dollars! (Hint: Use L'Hopital's Rule!). If you wish to attend as a volunteer, call our Volunteer Director, Michelle Pham. The LSHF will take place right outside the headquarters of the newspaper Nguoi Viet, directly across the street from the Asian Garden Mall. Be sure to invite anyone you wish!

* Any feature advertised is, sadly, subject to change should things not go as planned. =(

A new link was added to the Vietnamese International Bridging Expo, an expo for Vietnamese business, culture, art, and stuff. It will be held at CSU Fullerton as part of its 50th Anniversary, and it's free and open to the public. If you are in town, feel free to sign up and go.

Today was the VCH Staff Retreat, and major restructuring and planning followed. For one, staff has been shuffled after learning a lot from last year. The new configuration is shown on here.

May 07, 2007 22:40 PST by Kha Chu

Sorry guys for the lack of updates, but it seems most of the activity the staff has been mostly in planning future events. We've been coplanning an event with UCI students (they've only been recently named, and I forgot it by now, heh). Besides that, there's gonna be a bunch of fundraising events in order to raise money for equipment. That's all for now, come out to staff meetings more often!

March 05, 2007 15:48 PST by Kha Chu

Yo, VCH members. Tomorrow, we have a minor tabling event at Tom Bradley International Hall. We have it fully staffed, but if you want to show up and visit, we won't stop you.

March 01, 2007 19:05 PST by Kha Chu

Hey guys! As you can see, the site is finally up and running! We've got lots of things to do, so be sure to come to meetings and stay up-to-date with the club. Our next event is a Chinatown gig. More info coming.

Other updates will include pictures from the APHC Our Lady of Peace and Tet Festival events, so bookmark this page!
