Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join AATP?
In order to become an AATP tutor, you must attend ONE mandatory training session, held at the beginning of the quarter. The training session will introduce you to AATP and provide information about how we work. (You do not have to attend if you have tutored with AATP before - This is only required for new tutors).

Training sessions are being held on:

October 1, 6-7 pm @ Boelter 4413
October 2, 6-7 pm @ Boelter 4413
October 8, 6-7 pm @ Boelter 4413

How do I get to the site (Castelar Elementary)?
For provided transportation
, be at corner of Charles E Young WEST & De Neve Drive (De Neve Turnaround's traffic light) at 9AM***, Saturday mornings. Or, if you live in the apartments area, go to Parking Lot 36 at 9:15AM.

If you want to drive yourself, be at Castelar Elementary School (840 N. Yale St., Los Angeles, CA 90012) at 10:00AM.

*** First session each quarter always starts 1 hour early
(bus leaves Sproul Turnaround at 8AM instead of 9AM)
This does not apply to spring quarter.

Do I need to be Asian?
No. Our name is a legacy from 1969 when AATP was first established. Back then, everybody in Chinatown was an Asian American immigrant. We continue today serving the same community, however the demographics are now largely South-East Asian and Latin American.

What is AATP's site schedule?

9:00AM*** - Bus leaves from De Neve Turnaround's traffic light
9:15AM - Shuttle leaves from Parking Lot 36
10:00AM - Site officially starts. Kids arrive. Grade leaders hand out worksheets. Tutoring commences.
11:15AM - Kids are allowed to buy snacks, do arts/crafts, play board games, use the playground.
12:00PM - Parents begin to arrive to pick up children.
12:15PM - Board buses to go back to UCLA
