Upcoming Meetings and Information

Upcoming Events

General meetings are on Wednesdays during weeks 1,3,5,7 and 9 at 5pm in Geology 3680. We encourage everyone to come to our meetings, as Astrobiology is a very interesting and universal topic. Most meetings include a presentation by a speaker on a topic related to Astrobiology. Audience sizes are usually small (5-30 people), making the presentations a great opportunity to talk with professors who are among the best in their respective fields.

We have a new article in the newsletter: Worlds With Multiple Suns

ABS has a short article in the NASA Astrobiology Institute newsletter! Click here to read it.

Dr. Dario Nardi leads a workshop where ABS members work with the logistics of designing a mission to Mars.

Mars Society Convention at UCLA (Aug 30 - Sept 2)

If you have anything that you want to do during the 2006-07 school year, come to our meetings or send an email to absoc@ucla.edu!

If you are interested in becoming more involved, please talk to us before or after meetings or email us at absoc@ucla.edu  We would love to hear your ideas for events--your input is very important. Officer positions are still available, and are a great way to meet new people, learn a great deal about running an organization, and they look very impressive on graduate and professional school applications and resumes. You will have many opportunities to get to know faculty at UCLA and universities worldwide (especially important for letters of recommendation), as well as possibilities to journey across the globe!

Screening of the NOVA: Origins documentary about how life got its initial foothold on earth billions of years ago.

Week 4: Wednesday 4/25/07

Brig Klyce, the author of ten publications and many more presentations across the world on the panspermia theory, will be giving a presentation on the theory! For those who haven't heard of it, panspermia is the theory that life started elsewhere in the universe and then came to Earth in an asteroid or meteorite (most likely as bacteria). Visit the website www.panspermia.org for more info.

Camping trip to Palomar Observatory with the Undergraduate Astronomy Society! Send an email to absoc@ucla.edu if you're interested.

Week 6: Tuesday 5/8/07 at 5pm, in Geology 3680:

Dr. Brad Hansen, UCLA professor of Astronomy, will give a talk on extrasolar planets. This is a great way to learn about the astrobiology research going on here at UCLA!

Wednesday 5/23/07 at 5pm in Geology 3680:

We will be screening the second episode of the NOVA: Origins documentary, which is about how life started on Earth.

Join our e-mail list to be informed of upcoming meetings and activities!

There are two possibilities. Maybe we're alone. Maybe we're not.
Both are equally frightening.

Please sign our guestbook!
