Text Box: An Introduction to the UCLA AGSA
(as taken from the UCLA AGSA Constitution)
The UCLA AGSA was officially established on January 9, 2002. It was co-founded by a number of Armenian graduate students enrolled at that time at UCLA. These individuals recognized the need for an organization that would provide a forum in which currently enrolled graduate students at UCLA could benefit academically and professionally from activities that addressed issues facing the Armenian-American community. It was meant to counter what had been observed as a failing notion that simply being called an "Armenian" student organization would appeal to students on campus in general as well as ethnic Armenian students in particular. It was also established with the desire to set an example of accountability, transparency, organizational efficiency, responsibility, and professionalism in programming. It was established as a forum through which currently enrolled graduate students at UCLA could initiate, develop, and realize programming that was targeted to benefit the currently enrolled graduate student community at UCLA.
