[fall '11] MPHF: Monterey Park Health Fair

When:
Third Saturday of November, 9am-1pm

Where:
Monterey Park City Hall

                   320 Newmark Avenue, Monterey Park, CA 91755

History:
      Monterey Park Health Fair (MPHF) is an APHC-run health fair started in Fall 2008 by APHC directors, Anthony Nguyen and Jason Ngo. Monterey Park has one of the highest concentrations of Chinese-Americans in Southern California, so APHC cosponsored the event with the City of Monterey Park. The first health fair had about 300+ participants and continued to produce similar results in subsequent years. Recruitment for the Volunteer committee occurs in late August while the weekly committee meetings begin in October.

glucose/cholesterol, hepatitis B, orthopedics/chiropractics, dental, mammograms, pap smears,
      podiatry, osteopathic manipulative treatment, physician consultation, vision (basic and glaucoma),
      blood pressure, body mass index/ body fat percentage, flu shots


[winter '12] OLP: Our Lady of Peace Health Fair

When: Second Sunday of February, 8am-3pm

Where:
Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church
                   15444 Nordhoff Street, North Hills, CA 91343

History:
       Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Health Fair is held every Winter in North Hills and was first started as a collaboration between the Pilipinos for Community Health (PCH), the Latino Student Health Project (LSHP), and the Asian Pacific Health Corps (APHC) in Winter 2002. These student organizations also partnered with the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church for this event. The first health fair was a success, providing free health services to 400+ participants.
      The OLP steering committee, formed during summer, consists of directors from PCH, LSHP, and APHC. It is typically led by PCH with oversight by the Center for Student Programming (CSP) Advisor, Melissa Veluz-Abraham. Responsibility for Contacts, Volunteer, Logistics, Food & Donations, and Publicity are allocated to each student organization, with weekly/biweekly meetings used to keep everyone on the same page starting in December.

      nurse counseling, massage therapy, vision (basic and glaucoma), blood pressure, body mass index/
      body fat percentage, flu shots, stroke screenings


[spring '12] CCHF: Chinatown Community Health Fair

When: Third Saturday of May, 9am-1pm

Where:
Castelar Elementary School
                   840 Yale Street, Los Angeles, 90012

History:
      Started in 2003 by APHC director, Lotus Loo, Chinatown Community Health Fair (CCHF) is the second APHC-run health fair. APHC collaborates with Castelar Elementary School and LAUSD to host the health fair in LA Chinatown. Since then, about 300 participants (mostly from the surrounding Chinatown area) attend the health fair.
      There are four health fair committees created to assist with planning CCHF. They include: Volunteer, Logistics, Publicity, and Contacts. Recruitment for these committees begins late Winter Quarter. Meetings for the health fair committees are weekly starting in March.
