One major minor correction

First, I would like to tell the anyone who is not yet aware that the retreat scheduled for last week at Rosemead Buddhist Monastery fell through due to a scheduling conflict. While its unfortunate when things like this happen, the retreat is set to be rescheduled, so hopefully everyone will get a chance to visit on the new date, if not even more participants. Tentatively, SCUBA is rescheduling for the first weekend of February, the second to the fourth, though I'll be sure to keep you all informed via the list as we learn more.
Otherwise, our weekly meditation continues, like a trusted old friend. This week's meeting will be on Tuesday, January 23rd, from 5:00 to 6:30 at the University Catholic Center, as is our custom.

SCUBA Retreat

For the students and staff in the audience, we have a Monday to look forward to composed of leisure and holiday, thanks to one of the very greatest Americans. I can't help but think that Dr. King would be anything but surprised to find out that students and government employees around the country receive a day of rest in his honor. Perhaps, in addition to that time which is so precious, we can remember a man and his commitment to freedom and non-violence, those traits which can be so inspirational for us all.
And then, of course, comes the day after. A Tuesday, and time for Meditation with the UBA!
Our regular Meditations with the Rev. Kusala continue Tuesday, January 16th, from 5:00 to 6:30 at the University Catholic Center located on 633 Gayley Avenue. As always, more information is available on our website, www.theuba.org. Also, for those who are getting a chance this quarter to come for the first time, Rev. Kusla recently uploaded podcasts for his recent class at LMU to his website www.dharmatalks.info - these podcasts serve as an excellent introduction to Buddhism and our Chaplain, Rev. Kusala.
Also, this coming weekend the Southern California University Buddhist Association, a coalition of Buddhist Associations at major Californian Universities, is hosting an Eight Precept Retreat, and the UBA at UCLA has been invited! The retreat will be hosted at Rosemead Buddhist Monastery by Venerable Huei Hsuen, with a theme of the Four Divine Abidings of Buddhism: Loving Kindness, Compassion, Altruistic Joy, and Equanimity. Participants will leave UCLA on Friday evening and return Sunday Afternoon and be asked to observe the Eight Precepts for the duration of the retreat. These include the five lay precepts, plus provisions against sexual activity, taking food after noon, and watching entertainments. Additionally, at the end of the retreat, a three refuge ceremony will be offered to those who are interested. All those interested in participating in a weekend of meditation and dharma practice, please RSVP as soon as possible by e-mailing buddhist@ucla.edu. Any additional questions, please contact us at the same address.
Otherwise, have a wonderful week!
