Mindful Scuba Gathering This Saturday!
Thursday, January 17, 2008
Here are the details for this weekend's event (Saturday, January 19):

***

MSG is an opportunity to explore Buddhism with fellow students through questions and discussions. SCUBA members from UCI, UCLA, UCR, and USC will meet at UCLA for a day in order to find out what Buddhism means to each other. Our goal is to foster talk, learning, and friendship among our members.

The day will focus on exploring Buddhism amongst ourselves through peer discussions led by and for students. Rather than looking exclusively into traditional Buddhist teachings, the event allows students to look at Buddhism through contemporary eyes.

Tentative schedule (rough estimates at best):
Lunch 11am-1 pm
Group introductions 1pm-2 pm
Meditation 2-2:15 pm
Discussions 2:15-3:15 pm
Break 3:15-4:15 pm
Discussions 4:15-5:15 pm
Meditation 5:15-5:30pm

Where: Kerckhoff Grand Salon

Snacks will be provided, but for the lunch period (11-1), you will want to either bring a lunch or bring money for food at Ackerman.

Looking forward to seeing all of those who can make it, for either all or part of the event! If you can make it it would be great if you could RSVP to buddhist@ucla.edu. Thanks!

Welcome to the New Year
Sunday, January 06, 2008
Here we are in 2008!

Please join us for our first meditation meeting of winter quarter this Tuesday, January 8th from 5:30 to 7 pm. We meet at the University Catholic Center (UCC), which is located at 633 Gayley Avenue (across the street from the UCLA campus, between Strathmore and Le Conte, near the fraternity houses). Our meetings are led by Reverend Kusala, who leads us in a dharma discussion followed by a chance to ask questions and a meditation. Previous dharma discussions are available in podcast form at Rev. Kusala's website: www.dharmatalks.info.

As a non-denominational Buddhist group, our meetings are great for members of all forms of Buddhism as well as those new to the practice who are looking to learn more. Throughout the quarter we will also continue to offer various events such as talks, field trips, socials, community service days, and retreats. Keep checking our website for more info on these and other events.

So far this quarter we are looking at having an on-campus day retreat and also we are looking to train new staff members - if you'd like to get involved, let us know as we'd love to have you.

Best of luck in the new year to everyone!
