23 players turned out on Memorial Day, May 26, 2008 for a rain-delayed UCLA Club Tennis spring singles tournament. Originally scheduled for Saturday the 24th, the tournament was postponed in a controversial decision by tournament director Mark Otten. "It rained, I swear it's true," insisted Otten, even though everyone knows it never rains in Los Angeles in May...Continue reading.
05/26/08 ----- UCLA Women's Team Wins NCAA Championship
Number one seeded Riza Zalameda and Tracy Lin took the NCAA Double's draw by storm, finishing off championship contenders Fresno State, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Lin and Zalameda became only the sixth team in UCLA's Doubles' history to capture the championship.
Harel Srugo from the Men's team lost in the second round of singles' play and the Women's Andrea Remynse was forced to withdraw from the second round because of injury. Team mate Lin fell in the third round of singles' play. The ever persistent Zalameda held strong up til the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by the number one seed.

≡ 04/24/08 ≡ Fun Times
UCLA Club Tennis' second Pizza party will be held on Friday, 7:30 PM, at De Neve's 3rd-floor Dogwood Lounge. As Club President Emily Watt puts it, "We'll try to keep the door propped open so that you can get in, otherwise we'll buzz you in. If you've paid Club dues and want a reason/place to hang out with your buddies, come out and enjoy some pizza and wings!"
On a different note, open practices have been shifted from their usual MW 6-8 PM slot to Mondays and Thursdays 6-8PM to accomadate the IM doubles' league. Look forward to the quarterly Singles and Doubles weekend tournament to come in early May!
≡ 04/22/08 ≡ Nationals Sucess
The UCLA CT won its first three successive matches at Nationals in Cary, North Carolina, this week, boasting a series of shut-out sets and dominating matches. Early Friday morning (5 AM Pacific time), however, the bruins succumbed to the ferocious onslaught of 4-time National Champions Texas A&M. As a result of the loss, the Bruins faltered in the consolation round, conceding victory to the University of Illinois before rebounding to overtake Clemson University and defeating UC Davis on Saturday to take the backdraw. UCLA finished in the top 16 of over 64 schools. View photos of the event here, from Emily Watt.
The West was nonetheless well represented, as the semi-finals witnessed two California giants (UC Berkeley and Stanford) taking on two Texan schools (University of Texas and Texas A&M). Nationals concluded as follows:
| Semi-Finals | Finals | Champions |
| Stanford | ||
| Uof Texas | UT | UT |
| UC Berkeley | UC Berkeley | |
| Texas A&M |
Congratulations again to the UCLA Club CT for the valiant effort they put forth for Nationals, including two red-eye flights (from 3 or 4 AM lasting until 11 AM), three series' worth of 8-AM matches, and long long days of extremely intense tennis. If you see any of the following warriors around on campus, be sure to give them a BIG bruin hug!
| 1: Chikako Shimura | 2: Alyssa Chen | 3: Adeline Yang | 4: Cristina Toth | 5: Sarah Lowe |
| 1: Spencer Cohen | 2: Pat Williams | 3: Will Lam | 4: Andre Michelin |

The Men's team displayed similar superiority over USC, easily dominating the Trojans. Both teams head out to Ojai later on this week.
