≡ 10/28/08 ≡ CT Tryouts

To satisfy popular demand and accommodate Competitive Team hopefuls, Coaches Adeline Yang and Mark Otten are holding a special weekend CT Try-Outs Tournament. The details are as follows:

Time	9AM-5PM
Location	Sycamore courts (click for directions)

Entry Fee	Free for members, $5 if not

Tournament Format:
- Singles, World Team Tennis (WTT) format
(Read "Terms" here for more information about formats)
- Tentatively Double-Elimination

Tournament Purpose:
- Provide an opportunity for competitive team hopefuls to display their tennis prowess.
Individual results will not be the sole factor in consideration for placement into the invitation-only competitive team practices, but match scores shall weigh in heavily on the final decision. Tryouts also do NOT guarantee placement onto the Regionals and/or Nationals teams. Future selections may be made at the Coaches' discretion.

Recommended (but not required) prerequisites for tryouts: four years of varsity play in a high school, play time in a JC/Community College tennis team, or (for graduate students) varsity college tennis.

Competitive team members will represent UCLA Club Tennis during the Southern California Regional Championships, which will take place Sat.-Sun., Feb. 21-22, 2009 at LA Tennis Center. UCLA has won the last 5 consecutive Regional Championships and we are looking to win our sixth!

Two teams of 8 players each (4 guys, 4 girls) comprise the regionals team (Total UCLA Regionals players: 16). This roster will then be optimized into one team (4 guys, 4 girls) for the USTA National Championships, April 14-19, 2009 in Surprise, Arizona.

Unfortunately, this week's Halloween party has been - let's call it - postponed. Although this means we won't be having a Halloween party, we definitely will be having a social gathering later on in the quarter. We all look forward to seeing you then!

Club member Kingson Leung has agreed to help current Club Stringer Justin Ngo with stringing rackets. Please come by the MW 8-10 practices to drop off your rackets. Base cost per stringjob is $7, not including the price of string.

If you would like to order discounted Adidas gear, rest assured! We'll be providing the catalog as soon as we receive it from the UCLA Recreation office. Once the Rec office begins the ordering period, we will let our members know/place your orders.

The Halloween Party held at Struass (the clubhouse overlooking LATC) will have free food and drinks for all clubmembers, $5 for those who aren't (yet). There will also be a costume contest, with gift certificate prizes from Westwood Tennis Shop for the winning entries!

Congratulations to Mike Lee, champion of the annual 2008 UCLA Club Tennis Fall Welcome tournament! The draw is displayed below:

≡ 10/16/08 ≡ Welcome Bonfire

Hi everyone! So as many of you know this week is the Blue and Gold week, which means that our favorite Rally/Bonfire is coming up! Since it is hard to get to know each other on the courts at practice, this is a great chance for all of you to come out, spend time together, and just have fun!

The Rally/Bonfire is this Thursday, starting at 8pm. We will meet at the Deneve Quad (in front of the dining hall) at 7:30pm and walk down together. All of the club members are welcome, and feel free to bring your roommates or friends :)
