Going to Irvine the Bruins were represented by Anthony Dao, Daniel Cheong, David Li,
Jason Siu, Justin Ngo, Tanuj Thalpiyal for the gentlemen, and Christina Chang, Kelly
Iwanabe, and Emily Watt for the ladies. A beautiful day for tennis indeed it was, but
little was our squad prepared for the turn of events to come ahead. UCLA's Club squad was
faced with a tough draw for the tournament, beginning with UCSD Team A. Women's doubles
began with a strong start, but playing through nerves wasn't enough, going down 6-4. More
nerves on the men's doubles court was not similarly reflected in the women's singles
match producing a win by in a tiebreak and impressive men's singles play.

The second round saw another tough round against UC Irvine Team A. With more team members
than usual, the home court advantage proved to be a challenge for the Bruins, in addition
to sudden change in weather player confidence seemed to take a downturn as quickly as the
gusty winds on court. Fortunately a third round bye provided the respite and fuel the
team needed to regain some lost confidence, while supporting one Bruin commissioned to
play for Irvine who had lost a female player. The men's doubles match against UC Santa
Barbara was the highlight of the round being atwell-fought match on both ends, but ending
in a tough loss in a super tiebreaker for the Bruins. The long day of matches ended with
UC Irvine's Team A, newly rejuvenated with substitute players. Despite fatigue, the
Bruins put in a fight for all sets, including solid play in men's singles and mixed
doubles, and another win in women's singles.
