An incomplete version of UCLA's Club Tennis travel team assembled to take on members of
Riviera Country Club on Sunday. Riviera, known best for hosting golf's PGA Nissan Open
every February, has graciously hosted an exhibition against UCLA's club team each of the
last four years, led by their interclub team coordinator Mike Tarre. USC's club team was
also in attendance on Sunday, and played a second team of Riviera members on the north
courts, while UCLA battled it out with members on the south courts. For making the event
possible, many thanks go out to Riviera member and USTA board member Dr. Fred Ho, who for
several years has sponsored the first- and second-place teams from each year's Southern
California championships with a stipend to go to nationals.

Dr. Ho and approximately 20 other Riviera attendees watched as UCLA's Nick DeGoede and
Ricky Wu scored the Bruins' biggest victory of the day, a 6-4 triumph in doubles over a
Riviera pair that featured former Bruin Jason Cook. Cook, a member
of the UCLA men's varsity team from 1996-99, was an All-America and All-Conference in
1999, and won the Pac-10 Singles Championship in 1998.

Other action found Wu and DeGoede taking on two of Riviera's nationally-ranked juniors in
singles, and Chikako Shimura and Alyssa Chen battling in doubles against two of the
club's top women's players. Also representing UCLA on Sunday were Ross Newman, Mark
Otten, Spencer Cohen and Alana Pfeffinger.
