Practical Concerns

a.Practice Attendance
As a Competitive Team (CT) candidate, you must attend practices. If you have scheduling issues (late night labs, other clubs, frat/sorority etc) let Coach Adeline know IMMEDIATELY. You will likely be excused a few times with limited consequence, but repeated offenses may result in removal from team candidacy.

Members are expected to arrive at practice ready to play and ON TIME, preferably 10 minutes early.

Practices are usually 7-9PM, twice a week. Details for 2009-10 season TBA.

b.Regionals and Nationals
Regionals
Held on two days over a weekend in February. Usually takes place at UCLA's LATC and Sunset courts.
Nationals
Held over 6 days in April. 2010 Nationals is in Surprise, Arizona.
Membership Costs
Anyone contending for CT membership must be a fully registered UCLA Club Tennis member first. Dues are usually $15 to UCLA Recreation, and $45-$90 (quarterly to yearly) paid to Club.
Travel Costs
Regionals are held on our home courts, so costs are negligible. We will likely drive out to Nationals. Most costs will be covered by club funds and donations, but CT players are expected to chip in. Cost per player (travel/lodging) is between $80-$200. An extra $100 in pocket money is advised.
Uniform Costs
All members of the CT must purchase two team shirts as uniforms for Regionals/Nationals. Some of the cost will be subsidized by the Club. Price ranges from $60-$100.
Schedule Conflicts
If you have a scheduling conflict with one or both of the above events, you must let the coaches know IMMEDIATELY.

It is unlikely to affect your team candidacy, but is critical for when the coaches construct lineups.

If the above hasn't scared you off yet, below are some exceptions and clarifications for eligibility!

CT Practice Concerns/Costs Exceptions/Clarifications

Exceptions and Clarifications

a.
Varsity Player
A varsity player is defined as someone who has been listed by ANY 2- or 4-year university as active on that school's athletic roster for any one athletic event. Community colleges qualify as 2-year universities. You cannot be both a varsity and club competitor in the same season.
b.
Eligibility Length
Participants are eligible for 6 consecutive years, starting from their first varsity/club event.
c.
Graduating Spring Quarter
You do not have to meet minimum unit requirements. You DO need an official registrar letter stating you will graduate Spring Quarter.
d.
Below Unit Minimum (due to Co-op course)
You are still eligible for competition. You need an official letter from the registrar explaining enrollment in a co-op course and your full-time student status.
e.
Cost Concerns
Under special circumstances, Club may be able to subsidize some incurred team cost requirements. Be sure to notify one of the coaches immediately if you may need financial assistance for CT participation.
