The U23 National Time Trial championships were held last week at Santiago canyon. The course was a 35K out and back time trial with about 1500 feet of climbing. My preparation for the time trial was less than ideal, with mostly 6+ hour base rides and biweekly rides on the TT bike. However, I was able to get some really sweet wheels from Rich at Wheelbuilder.com. Thanks Rich.

I started the course at about 250-270 watts on the descents and 340-360 watts on the climbs. Also, since at the start is was only about 76 degrees, I didn't bring any water. Huge mistake. After the turn around and with a massive headwind, I became dehydrated and cracked hard about 35 minutes into the time trial.

I finished at 51 minutes 39 seconds, good for 41st place, and enough to beat whole rock racing team and some big names in the WCCC. |
