WCCC Conference Championships

In the Women's A road race, Courtney was tangled up in the sprint and dragged over the line by Poly, but she stayed upright and was awarded the victory (video coming soon). Court also pulled down a fourth place in the criterium on Sunday and retained her yellow jersey. Courtney, undefeated in road races, is the 2009 WCCC Women's A Omnium Champion and will represent UCLA at Collegiate Road Nationals in Colorado next month.

The Men's A road race was a mild disaster. Four of the five of us flatted, Alex crashed out, and Joe rolled over the line dead last as our only finisher. The attrition rate was better in the criterium: Brian made the break and finished third behind the supersonic vacuum cleaner and NickMart while Alex shut his brain off on the last lap and took the field sprint for fifth.

Dave G. cruised to a fourth place finish in the Men's B criterium and Lucy notched a second place in the Women's C RR in one of her first weekends racing. In the Men C's, Dan Gazarian put in some solid work on the front to set up Andrew Talai for a violently fast sprint down the last straightaway. Congratulations to Andrew for his first cycling victory!

Unfortunately, our performance at the A level over the course of the 2009 season was a hair shy of earning team spots at nationals. UCSB edged us out over the past two weekends and earned the rights to the start line at Fort Collins by a slim margin of points. We wish the Aggies, Mustangs, ...trees, and Gauchos the best of luck in Colorado.

The team would like to thank all of our generous hosts who have put up with our ravenous collective appetite and unnatural sleep patterns over the course of the season. Thank you to the Wu family, the Patterson family, and especially the Yeh family for opening your doors, floors, and refrigerators to our odious traveling menagerie.

We missed you, Sara.

1 Comments:

There are also videos for all the Crit finishes, I dunno about the RR.
