In their home turf at Mother's Beach, UCLA Dragon Boat's Blue and Gold crews raced in the College 500m finals together, placing 2nd and 4th, respectively. In the 200m finals, Blue and Gold once again raced together as one family, with Blue placing 1st and Gold placing 3rd.
Under the scorching sun of Tempe, Arizona, UCLA Dragon Boat suited up and with their golden PFDs and decorated paddles and prepared to dump everything they had learned within the ten-week season onto the violent, unpredictable waters of Tempe Town Lake.
In Mixed A Finals, Blue boat raced against LARD Black, Space Dragons Red, and UCSD 1, and came in third with a time of 2:17.31 after Space Dragons and LARD. UCLA Blue and Gold placed first and second in the College Finals with a 0.07 second difference in reaching the finish line -- truly an unforgettable moment in UCLA Dragon Boat history.

With just six weeks of practice, UCLA paddlers headed up to Northern California to race against the most competitive college teams in California. This year, everyone began with a fresh slate. Newbies and veterans alike struggled to master the tough new stroke.
Gold Boat displayed the greatest amount of passion a young crew could show and proved themselves to be one of the strongest, most dedicated Gold Boat crews in all of UCLA DBoat history. With enthusiasm, passion and hard-work, this young crew seeded into the CompA division and fought alongside Blue Boat in the Championship Finals against UCSD, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis crews.
Blue Boat showed immeasurable courage and heart for each race piece on Sunday and brought the mentality of true underdogs with each heat. Each piece was a fight, but Blue maintained composure and never gave up. Blue fought to maintain the faster race pace, placing 3rd in Competitive division A.

Congratulations UCLA Ferocious Bruins for placing 6th overall at the Treasure Island International Dragon Boat Festival this past weekend against over 70 teams and 120 crews. Six weeks of vigorous practices allowed us to achieve our goal of getting into the Mixed Comp A Final Division against many of the top adult teams.
Here are the race results from Treasure Island!
UCLA Dragon Boat's Summer Crew showed what six weeks of hard work could accomplish at the Viewsonic Long Beach Festival on July 30th and 31st. The crew placed 1st in the College division and 4th in the Mixed 1A division. As the weekend progressed, summer crew only grew stronger as a team and closer as a family.
For a more detailed overview, check out the race results from Viewsonic.
This past Sunday May 1st, UCLA Dragon Boat raced its final race of the year at the Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival. For the 20-man boats in the 200m sprints, UCLA Gold placed 2nd while UCLA Blue placed 4th. In 20-man 500s, UCLA Blue placed first and UCLA Gold placed 4th.
It has been a roller-coaster year filled with pain, frustration, and triumph; one that none of us will soon forget. With the competition getting stronger, each race throughout the year was a nailbiter, demanding maximum effort out of our team on and off the water. A big thanks to the seniors who dedicated so much time and heart to this team, who gave this year so much character, and for whom this was their last race. Big thanks to the alumni and especially those who were able to come out to support us. One more thanks to Henry Lee who steered his last race (at least for now) with UCLA in the 500 meter finals. This will be his 7th banquet.
Be sure to check out the race results page for full results.
Welcome to everyone running or thinking of running for an officer position! The officers are really excited in the interest we've gotten so far and we hope even more people will try out for cabinet! The Potential Officers process is designed to be a training process where you will work with your corresponding officer to learn what they do on the team and how to do it. This training will give you a jump start into fulfilling and exceeding in your role. A few notes: Don't be discouraged from trying out if you feel you are unexperienced or unskilled. A major part of the PO process is education and learning. We don't expect you to be able to simply pick up our jobs and do well from day one. Another thing to consider: the PO process consists of invaluable information about the inner workings of the team. Even if you do not become an officer this next year, the training will serve you to understand better how the team works along with any individual skills you will aquire. So with that, we as officers highly encourage you to try out and we ensure that we will make the process worth your time.
The general calendar for applications and the PO process is as follows:
Congratulations everyone for a great weekend in Tempe! The full results can be found here. Special thanks to Chris Tanouye, Kyle Chen, and Henry Lee for helping out the team, representing the alumni, and helping make this weekend memorable. Let's keep this great momentum for Baby Longbeach! Don't let up for a second!
Alumni Day Recap: Thanks to all the awesome alumni that could make it out to Alumni Day! Team, remember that the UCLA Dragonboat family extends beyond our own team into the ranks of alumni and the years past that have shaped the team into what it is today. I hope you all were able to connect with at least some of the alumni and were able to learn something about UCLA Dragon Boat by talking and paddling with them.

Bring a roll of toilet paper to practice tomorrow for a special prize!
Community Service-- Our team has to partake in a few community service events per year to satisfy our Tier 1 level with club sports. (This is what gives us a lot of money at the beginning of the year!) One opportunity that we have to do so is to collect a bunch of old sporting goods when we go home for thanksgiving to donate to children living in poverty play sports. If more than half of our team donates, we will meet the requirement... so please try to bring whatever you can from home. This is a very easy way to meet the requirement! For a list of equipment that you can donate, please go here: http://www.sportsgift.org/donate_all-sports.html
Hey all, welcome back from break! Hope you all had relaxing holiday with your families and friends. Now that that's over, time to hang out with your dboat family! We will be having practice this week at 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday as usual. Rain is unlikely this week, but bundle yourself up because it is going to be cold and no one wants to you start out the new year or the new season with the flu. In addition, we've posted new gym workouts for men and women and a new set of weekly assignments in the member's section. If you forgot the password, ask around. Also, don't forget to reply to the winter retreat anyvite. Otherwise, hope you all have A's in all your classes so far.
Congratulations to UCLA for winning the 6th Annual College Cup! On a day full of tense races and closely contended finishes, UCLA came out on top of the 500m mixed race and took home the College Cup trophy! Having taken second in the women's and the men's races, UCLA Blue bounced back with a spectacular neck-and-neck finals piece to beat out second place by less than a second. Chris Tanouye was quoted after the race, saying "This is the piece I've been looking for." Full of new paddlers, UCLA Gold also had a great showing. The B division finals were so close that their fourth place finish was less than a second away from first place UCI. Although they did not medal, they held their own in all their races of the day. It is very exciting imagining what they will be able to accomplish with a few more months of training.
Thanks to everyone for making this weekend memorable and especally to all the spectacular alumni that came out to support the team or who sent in their support. This weekend couldn't have been the same without all of you there. Dboat love.
The NorCal College Cup race is less than a week away! If you aren't already, it's time to get pumped! Land practice on Tuesday will be our last practice together before we head up to NorCal. It will cap off the weeks of time you have all spent conditioning yourselves, practicing for this race, and bonding with your teammates. All that's left is to execute again at JLAC on Sunday. Get excited to represent UCLA with some earth-shaking 8-claps and engine calls with the strength of 50 paddlers and alumni from teams past. Remember, six weeks ago we were a team of strangers, full of new faces and new crews. Next week, we paddle together as a family. UCLA: Power house what?
First off, congratulations to the new members of the team for making it through the first week of practices! We hope you had fun and that you are hungry for more because the real work is just getting started. Secondly, to everyone, with our first race coming up in five weeks, it's time to get down to business. Starting this week, the veterans will begin taking the newer members to the gym to show them the dboat exercises. if you are interested in joining a workout and finding a workout group, email Alex or another officer and include the times you are free to go to the gym. If you've never gone to the gym before, or even if you have, it is a good idea to go with one of the older members to learn how to do our workouts properly. The last thing we want is someone injuring themselves in the gym because they were doing the exercises incorrectly. Finally, check the calendar regularly for practice times and events each week. Time to get hungry UCLA!

Hello and welcome to the UCLA Dragonboat website! Explore the website to find out more about what UCLA Dragonboat is like and do not hesitate to email any of the officers with questions. Also, check us out at the activities fair during zero week. We'll be in the club sports section wielding paddles. Remember that tryouts for the team will be held during zero or first week. We will also announce an info session as zero week approaches. As far as tryouts go, remember that we are looking for athletes, but it is more important that you bring a positive attitude and a willingness to work. Also remember that you do not need any previous experience to try out. This team is successful because its members work hard to constantly improve themselves and to reach new goals. A good work ethic and a hunger to learn will go far at tryouts. Other than that, be sure to check the website for updates as zero week nears and have a great rest of summer!
The Viewsonic Longbeach festival results are in. After an emotional race weekend, the crew emerged hungrier than ever. The summer crew reached the finals for the college division and for the first time in UCLA Dragonboat history, the team qualified for the Division 1 finals. UCLA finished 3rd overall to Cal and SF's Dragon Warriors in the college final and competed against world-class teams such as Canada's Jet Start and Dragonhearts as well as the Dragon Warriors and San Diego in the finals. In the finals, the crew felt what it was like to race against professional teams. Although UCLA did not place in the Division 1 finals, the crew walked away knowing they had raced with the best and grew only hungrier for the next race in November.
This weekend, July 31 - August 1, the UCLA summer crew will be competing at the Viewsonic Dragonboat festival at Longbeach, the biggest festival in Southern California. UCLA will be competing against some of the best teams in the world in Division 1 and the other UCs in College Division A. This will be the only race for this year's summer crew and the crew is very excited to compete. Spend a weekend at the beach and support the team at the Marine Stadium for qualifying heats on Saturday starting at 1pm and for the finals on Sunday starting at 10am. Hope to see you there!
Welcome to the UCLA Dragonboat site! This is our team site where you can find information about the team including a brief history, general practice schedules, and contact information for any of the eight officers if you have any questions. If you want to see pictures of the team in action, you can check out the gallery where there are pictures of races and socials. Look out for us in the club sports section of the activities fair during week zero! Tryouts will be held early fall quarter during week zero or week one; keep an eye out for updates. Enjoy your summer and hope to see you in the fall!
As summer session A begins, a new season for UCLA Dragonboat is underway. The summer crew began the road to excellence with a tough first practice for the upcoming Viewsonic race at Longbeach, shaking off any rustiness with a trip around the island and several long pieces. UCLA is looking to get into action quickly and to maintain a high level of activity in order to glide into a strong showing at Longbeach. After previous success at the race in May, the team is hungry for more. With six weeks to train, the summer crew will be hitting the water, the pool, and the gym harder than ever to become the best team possible by the end of July. Let's get this summer started off right! Let's protect this house from day one!
The summer will also be a chance for the newly elected officers to show off their skills. To see who they are, to ask them questions or for advice, or just to tell them what a good job they are doing, check out our contact section.
Congratulations the newest members of the UCLA Dragonboat alumni family: Shou, Amanda, Andrew, Derrick, Julia, Kyle, Shuk, Aaron, Mindy, Quan, and Winnie. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication over this past year and for helping this team achieve new heights time and time again. You will carry the pride and support of the UCLA Dragonboat family wherever you go and you will always have a home to come back to at UCLA.
