Constitution of the Hellenic-American Students’ Organization (HASO) at UCLA

as of 09/2006
I. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Hellenic-American Students Organization (HASO) at UCLA seeks to bring together students who are of Hellenic ancestry for cultural and social activities and events that both celebrate our heritage and promote the spirit of Hellenism at UCLA and in Los Angeles. We also welcome Philhellenes (anyone interested in Greek culture).
II. ELIGIBILITY FOR VOTING PRIVLEDGES
Any member present at the time of voting may vote. A member is defined as any individual who is a currently enrolled full-time UCLA student who joins our mailing list.
III. VOTING PROCEDURES
Voting for executive board positions will take place at the first meeting of Fall Quarter. All three signatories must be present for executive board voting to take place. The candidates must be UCLA students who will be enrolled for the entire academic year at UCLA. Any member may nominate a candidate. The candidate with the majority of the quorum is the one who is elected to the position.
Voting for all other events and proposals will take place during our scheduled meeting times throughout the academic year, and if the proposal passes with the majority of the quorum, the proposal will be accepted.
IV. PROCEDURES FOR AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION
Any proposed amendment to this constitution must be typed or handwritten and submitted to the President. The proposal will be discussed by the executive board and presented to the members present at the next meeting for voting. If an amendment is proposed at a general meeting, voting may take place at that time.
An amendment will be adopted if a 2/3 majority vote of the quorum is reached. The approved amendment will be added to the HASO constitution.
V. OPERATING PRODECURES
Once a month during each quarter, HASO will hold a general meeting. Event proposals and other club business will be discussed at these meetings. Most weeks of the quarter, executive board members will convene for a board meeting. Any member is welcome to attend.
Impeachment for members of the executive board will be handled in the following manner: a proposal of impeachment must be made in writing and given to the President. The person subject to impeachment will be informed and a hearing, open to all general members, will then be scheduled. Fifteen minutes will be given to each side to present their case with ten minutes of rebuttal. Following the rebuttal, the individual subject to impeachment is dismissed and a discussion and closed ballot vote is held. Approval of the proposal requires ¾ majority consensus of members present.
VI. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
The governing body of HASO is the following executive board: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair, Graduate Student Relations, Publicity Chair, and Community Liason.
General membership consists of all members not currently on the executive board.
Directors and Committees for HASO events and programs will be selected from the general membership as and when needed.
VII. PROVISION TO MAKE FINANCIAL RECORDS AVAILABLE
Financial records will be available to authorized officials upon request.
VIII. NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT
HASO, in accordance with applicable Federal and State law and University Policy, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, medical condition, citizenship, or sexual orientation.
HASO also prohibits sexual harassment.
This non-discrimination policy covers organization membership, access to organization programs and activities, and the general treatment of members in the organization.
