Our Mission
KASEO, Korean American Student Educational Outreach, is a student run organization pursuing three fundamental goals:
• To improve the academic and social achievement of the inner-city youth of Koreatown by providing tutoring and mentoring services
• To ease the cultural transition for immigrant students by offering English tutoring and translation services
• To provide opportunities for college students to come together and serve the needy community of Koreatown
Through tutoring and mentoring, KASEO aims to improve the lives of Koreatown students by helping them to reach their full potentials academically, resulting in improved attendance through increased enthusiasm for learning, forming positive identities and future goals. Furthermore, KASEO mentors wish to be plausible role models for their everyday lives, as big brothers and sisters, as well as friends, who will increase their self-confidence and community awareness. KASEO will reach out to the students of different ethnic backgrounds, specifically the youth at Berendo Middle School in Koreatown.
Members of the KASEO program meet every Saturday, excluding holidays and finals week. Transportation to and from Berendo Middle School and the UCLA campus is provided. Tutors meet from 10am-12pm , meeting with their students for one-on-one tutoring for the first hour and a half and then engaging in activities and mentoring for the last half hour.
