SPRING 2008: WEEK 9 MEETING (LAST ONE - SOCIAL!)

A BIG congratulations to our initiated members. We had a wonderful ceremony and want to thank those of you who came.

Tomorrow's our last get-together of the year, and it'll be a great way to end spring quarter with Psi Chi. We'll have foods and snacks so come and relax with us. Usual place, usual time: Tuesday 5 pm at Franz 3435.

If you need to do so, please hand in your Psi Chi card to officers for the points you accumulated this quarter to count. You can also choose to put your card in the Psi Chi mailing box (in the room right next to Franz 3435, our meeting room). We will pick them up in week 10.

For those who need to pick up their initiation materials, this would also be the time to do so unless you indicated otherwise.
SPRING 2008: WEEK 8 MEETING

I hope the spring quarter is treating you well. Hopefully most of you are done with midterms and getting ready for summer.

Psi Chi has two meetings left, one tomorrow (Tuesday, May 20 at 5pm in Franz 3435) and one next week.

Week 8's meeting is the last meeting with a speaker. We are having our first graduate student of the quarter, Matt Hays, come in to talk to us about his research here at UCLA, to share his experience as a graduate student, and to talk about how he got into UCLA.

We understand that many of you have initiated or have accumulated enough points. But there are only two meetings left in the year, and we would really appreciate your coming to both of them, especially to the social next week!

For those who haven't initiated, remember that you need to turn in your Psi Chi card by the end of the quarter for your points to count!
ANNOUNCEMENTS

A big thanks to the members who came to the week 6 meeting! We know that it's midterm time so we really appreciate it. The following is an announcement made at the meeting. If you are interested in working in the Neuropsychology lab, please contact Drs. Ellen Woo and Po Lu:

LAST MEETING & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Psi Chi general members,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are just emailing you to let you know that we will be holding the last meeting of the quarter tomorrow, Tuesday November 27th. Same place (Franz Hall 3435), same time (5-6pm)! And you won't want to miss this great opportunity to come hear a faculty member from Alliant University come speak. Alliant university is also know as the California School for Professional Psychology, and it prides itself on turning out more psychologists in California than any other university. Alliant truly offers a very hands on clinical experience that few other schools offer.

Johnathan Troper, who is a UCLA alum himself, is the Director for the Center of Innovation and Change at Alliant, will be our speaker tomorrow. He currently teaches in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology MA and PhD programs for the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management. He will be speaking primarily about this program, but also about Alliant in general. Come with questions, because he will be a great resource!

An opportunity for volunteering and earning up to 2 Psi Chi points will be this Wednesday, at AED's Tri-healthalon health fair. You need to be able to participate and table for at least two hours. It's a good opportunity to bond with your fellow members! There will be other organizations there as well as workshops, CPR certification classes, and refreshments. Please come show up, even if only for an hour it should be fun! Here's the information: Don't forget to check in with any one of the officers.

The event will be on:
November 28 from 5-9pm
at the De Neve Plaza Rooms.
set up should be around 4:30-4:40pm.

AED will have a reception table upon entry into the plaza room, in which each student groups will sign in and receive additional information as to where to set up.

here is a rough breakdown of that night's events:
4:30 = AED arrives for set-up
4:40 = student groups arrive for set-up*
5:00 = event starts
5:00 - 9:00 = Resource Fair: student groups tabling
5:30 - 8:30 = Covel workshops hourly
6:00 - 9:00 = CPR certification course
9:00 - 9:30 = Clean up and breakdown

Lastly if you are interested in initiating this quarter you will need to turn in all your paperwork into the Psi Chi mailbox by Friday of tenth week. If you have any questions about initiating go to http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/psichi/initiation.html to check out what you need to do. You only qualify to initiate if you have participated in Psi Chi for two consecutive quarters, received 10 Psi Chi points cumulatively from those two quarters and have meet the GPA requirements for the level you wish to initiate at. However please remember if you do want to initiate this quarter, you will still need to attend the initiation ceremony in spring quarter. If you have any questions you can email us as psichi@ucla.edu.
Thank you!

FALL 2007

FIRST MEETING OF THE QUARTER:
will be held at 3435 FH at 5pm next Tuesday, October 9, 2007. Hope to see you there!!!

I apologize for the delay in updating the website (I just flew into Los Angeles yesterday). But I am back and ready to kick off the new school year!!

Here are some updates:
Changes and updates were made to the Psi Chi Website over the summer.
Unfortunately, changes are still pending. Other links in NAVIGATION menu still have layout of old site, but no worries I will be fixing everything.

Calendar & Forum Functions were added to the menu, so we'll see how that works out for us.
Feel free to start topics about classes, textbooks, housing, and anything you want (But please keep the content appropriate).
New Module added to left side of webpage for pictures, events, etc... any Suggestions?
I also redesigned the logo to better match the look of the website.
I do not have professional experience in web design, so please bear with me :) Everything I am using to build this website is self-taught.
For those of you who have never seen the old design of the website, click HERE

Please be patient & enjoy the start of FALL 2007!

Also, here's a BIG welcome to new transfers. Hope your UCLA experience is a pleasant one!

THank you!

Sincerely,
Joanna
Webmaster

P.S. Feel free to e-mail any suggestions, questions, or comments to psichi@ucla.edu
Future reminders: Please put UCLA PSI CHI: ___(any subject)__ in the subject line when sending e-mails to the Psi Chi e-mail so as to make sure your messages won't be marked as junk mail. Thanks again!
