Bruins for Recycling
To increase awareness of, participation in, and availability of recycling
in the UCLA community through fun and exciting activities and programs, providing
the opportunity to meet like-minded students.
1/25/01 - Okay, the Minutes Archive has finally
been updated. If you can't make it to a meeting, but want to know what's
going on, please check the archive.
Newsletter:
We put out a bi-monthly newsletter via e-mail updating anyone interested
in UCLA recycling on what our organization is doing, how to get involved,
and when our group meetings are. If you are interested in joining over
1,000 other pro-recyclers on this e-mail list, just send an e-mail to
recycle@ucla.edu and tell us,
"I wanna be on the list!!"

(By-the-way, those pencils Terry is holding are made from post-consumer cardboard
instead of wood. Pretty cool, huh?)
Bruins for Recycling has been formed as an on-going campaign to improve the
waste management practices of the UCLA community, specifically focused on--but
not limited to--recycling. We welcome anyone interested in such waste management
improvements, including undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty
members, and all other UCLA community or outside enthusiasts.
Our organization plans to hold one large-scale event per quarter, while
constantly inquiring about minor changes in policy and procedures that can
either increase reduction, reusing, or recycling. Last year, in our inaugural
year, we organized a recycling rally, had a booth at the Eco Fair for Earth
Day, and held a campus-wide Keep Recyclables Out of Trash campaign. In between
organizing and preparing for these events, we also setup a recycling service
for the John Wooden Recreation Center and made sandwich boards displaying
the locations of recycling clusters. (For more information on these, go to
Past Projects.)
We have taken on several projects for the upcoming school year (visit
Current Projects). Besides increasing our membership
and holding quarterly events, we plan to establish a recycling program for
all 27 Greek houses. Additionally, we intend to perform research into grants,
which would allow us to buy more bins for the University.
Recycling is often overlooked in the daily grind, but it is nevertheless
an important necessity for the UCLA campus and community, as well as the
environment in general. Please help and support us in preserving our
deteriorating environment and depleted natural resources. Bottle by bottle
is all it takes.
