On-Campus Housing

Do you feel like you're stuck in a repetitive boring bubble while living at home? Want to get away for a while? Check out your campus' housing and try it out for a year. Why not? Most dorms are co-ed, so it's great to meet new people or new beaux.  You'll have a roommate or roommates to help you understand yourself more.  You may connect with your roommates, or you may not.  Give it a shot.  If it's only a year, you can always go home if the school is near.  If not, there are always the apartments!  At UCLA, each dorm has a cafeteria that serves you food buffet style.  Sick of cereal or macaroni and cheese? Dorm food is better than that.  Dorming for your first year is highly recommended.  You will become familiar with every inch of the school, know when computer labs/libraries are open, know the best places in town, meet awesome people, become independent and find more about yourself!

If you decide to live in an apartment or rent a room in a private home, make sure you check your college housing or community housing office to get rental information.  Also, make sure you are aware of the following:
  • Lease information
  • Landlord/tenant policies
  • Research the residential area you are interested in
  • Get to know your potential roommates
  • Calculate to see if you are able to pay the rent
  • Ask around and get advice before entering into a lease or roommate situation.
Living on your own can be fun and it can teach you a lot about the basics of being an adult by showing you the necessary responsibilities that you have to assume such as paying bills and taking care of yourself (such as cooking and cleaning).
