You'll need to get your group's web pages off
your computer (the one used to develop your web pages)
and onto our server (aka "host").Here are a few ways:
FTP: FTP stands for "File Transfer
Protocol", a mechanism that enables the copying of files between computer
systems. This is the easiest way to copy your web pages from the development
computer (your MAC or PC) up to the host (our web server). Free FTP programs
found on Bruin Online are great for this task. We'll provide specific
instructions via email when your group obtains or renews a site with us.
Adobe Dreamweaver or Studio 8: This program
include a FTP utility obviating the need for a separate FTP program.
Dreamweaver, which is often bundled with Adobe Studio 8 suite of design programs
keeps track of what files need to be moved from your computer to the host
computer (the student group web server in this case).
Microsoft FrontPage: Newer versions of
FrontPage include a file transfer (FTP) program. Please use FTP to "publish"
your FrontPage files to our server. Keep in mind that we no longer support
FrontPage server side extensions, aka "bots", but you can continue to use
FrontPage to build and transfer your web pages to our server for your group site.
And Remember: ALWAYS BACK UP your pages onto CD, USB drive, DVD,or other portable media.
Still Confused: Just
drop us a line and we'll try to help. You can always reach us at GROUPHLP@UCLA.EDU.
