A Hunger Banquet is a banquet without much food. Each person attending is randomly assigned a role. 15% of the people get a role in the high income group; these people sit at a table and enjoy a three-course meal. 25% of the people get a role in the middle income group; they sit in chairs and eat rice and beans. 60% of the attendees receive only rice and water. They are the low income group, and for one meal, they suffer the fate of the millions of people throughout the world who live in poverty.

The Social Justice Alliance has proudly sponsored 2 Hunger Banquets at UCLA and is looking forward to the 3rd Annual.

The 3rd Annual Hunger Banquet took place Wednesday, April 16. We felt it improved from last year and was very successful in encouraging people to get involved by having student groups tabling in the back.

Our speakers this year included a representative of Oxfam America as well as the CEO of PATH(People Assisting the Homeless).

If you are interested in planning next year's Banquet, please come to SJA meetings fall quarter! Otherwise, we're working on several other great projects that you can get involved with.
