About SPICMACAY
SPICMACAY is a movement formed to help disseminate the best of India's and the world's classical heritage with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy in educational institutions. It seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of this rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth through focus on the classical arts, and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values. UCLA Chapter
The UCLA Chapter of SPICMACAY was formed in 2003 as a non-profit voluntary and participatory student organization to bring to the UCLA and LA community, various aspects of Indian culture by the organization of: 1) Lectures demonstrating various classical arts by providing a close, face-to-face encounter with the artist and the instrument, 2) Concerts in traditional baithak style, and 3) weekly meetings consisting of guest lectures and discussion sessions.
We are primarily funded by the Campus Programs Committee of the Programs Activities Board. We are also co-sponsored for individual events by the Graduate Students Association and the Dashew International Center for Students and Scholars.
