Constitution of SPICMACAY-UCLA
Statement of purpose
SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth) seeks to conserve the richer nuances of the diverse Indian cultural values, primarily through an awareness of the deeper and subtler values of the classical arts, rituals, mythology, and philosophy among youth. Using the medium of classical music, folk forms, crafts, yoga, meditation, films, theater and talks; and through direct interaction with the doyens of art, and the people with real depth and knowledge, SPICMACAY tries to initiate and nurture a thought process in the youth of today.

Eligibility for voting privileges
The voting privileges will lie with 6 Board members comprising of the President, the Vice President, the Secretary (Artist Coordinator), the Treasurer (Budget Coordinator), the Publicity Coordinator and the Travel Coordinator, with each having an equal vote in the organizational procedures.
Voting Procedures
The Board members are selected at the beginning of each academic year. Candidates can be nominated by any of the members of SPICMACAY or self-nominated, subject to approval by the 6 Board members. Professional artists or faculty members would not be eligible for nomination.

Board members can be removed during the term for good cause by the unanimous vote of the other Board members.
Operating Procedures
SPICMACAY would organize two concerts by professional artists, in the Fall and Winter quarters respectively. It would also organize a number of lecture demonstrations (6-12) throughout the year, in the field of classical music and dance, folk forms, craft workshops, theater, films and yoga.

There would also be other members and volunteers, all of whom would report to the President. Additional positions maybe added when needed, during preparation for the concerts. The signatories have to be the President and any of the other two Board members.
Provision to make financial records available to the authorized University officials upon request
If records are required by the University officials, they should contact the current President (and in his/her absence, the Vice President). The President would contact the Treasurer for copies of the current records.
Procedures for amending the constitution
Any SPICMACAY member may propose a constitutional amendment. Proposed amendments would be passed with a majority vote of the SPICMACAY Board members.
