Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to know how to Tango?
Absolutely not, we teach beginning and intermediate lessons year round. The saying goes, "if you can walk, you can tango."
Is this the same as Ballroom Tango?
No, Ballroom tango is more rigid and there is more emphasis on memorizing patterns and routines. Argentine Tango is a dynamic dance in which each step is interpreted differently depending on the music and the mood of the dancers. For a better description of Argentine Tango, look at the Tango Afficionado website
Do I need a partner?
No, Argentine Tango is a social dance and as such we rotate partners.
Can I bring a partner?
Absolutely. Many people prefer to dance with just one person.
Who joins typically?
Everyone. We have a great mix of males, females, Americans, foreigners, undergraduate, and graduate students. Moreover, during our milongas, dancers from the LA community will come, which introduces an even broader range of people. Tango can be a great opportunity to meet both people you would typically socialize with and people you would never get the chance to socialize with!
