Daily Bruin, June 7, 2004:

Letter to the Sports Desk:

"On behalf of the men's volleyball team, I thank the dedicated and enthusiastic fans that are known to us as the distinguished members of the "True Blue Crew" or officially, The Den.

"It began with just four or five True Blue affiliates who felt it was their obligation to attend as many UCLA events as humanly possible. The bug seemed to spread as these fans convinced their peers to join the fun and excitement.

"When it was all said and done, the UCLA men's volleyball team had a substantial student fan base led by the gregarious Den.

"The enthusiasm was unparalleled by any school we faced...As an athlete, it is a fantastic feeling to look up and see that our enthusiasm for our sport is shared by our peers.

"The atmosphere that the Bruin Den created in Pauley Pavilion is one that this year's seniors have never before experienced and will fondly remember."

Daily Bruin, September 26, 2004:

The Den aims to boost students' sports involvement

"Since that day, the Den has played a much larger role in promoting UCLA athletics, assigning the students "True Blue" shirts and leading the cheers for the students at all UCLA athletic games and sporting events."

"The Den holds meetings every other week in which it meets with members of the UCLA athletic department and special guest speakers to come up with ideas for students to get more involved with Bruin athletics.

One of the big roles that the Den plays on campus is promoting the non-revenue and lesser-attended Olympic sports that the casual fan may not be familiar with."

Pac-10 5-0 record makes for mindblower of a déjà vu

"But UCLA is making some noise in the conference. Heck, Pauley Pavilion is making noise. The arena was as loud as it's been in quite some time, and this time they weren't cheering because the Bruins miraculously had upset a big-name team. The student section was involved and boisterous simply because UCLA has something to play for – and something to prove. I dare say the Bruins might have a real home-court advantage once again."
