Tippi Hedren lecture at UCLA School of Law

When: April 9, 2008, 12:15-1:15p.m.
Where: UCLA Law School, Room 1430

The Animal Law Society at UCLA Law School invites you to a Bohnett Animal Law lecture by actress and conservationist Tippi Hedren. Please save the date of Wednesday, April 9th to join us at UCLA Law School for lunch from 12:15 to 1:15 in room 1430.

Ms. Hedren serves as President of the Roar Foundation, guiding the organization's efforts to increase the public's knowledge about wildlife in our world. The Roar Foundation also maintains the Shambala Preserve, the only wild animal preserve of its kind in the United States. Since 1972, the eighty-acre wildlife habitat has provided a haven for endangered exotic big cats, including African lions, Siberian and Bengal tigers, leopards, servals, mountain lions, bobcats, a lynx, and a Florida panther. Most of these animals were born in captivity, with many of them being orphans or cast-offs from circuses, zoos and private owners who could no longer care for them. These animals could not survive in the wild and depend on humans for their needs.

Ms. Hedren has testified before the House Resources Committee, and was instrumental in passing The Captive Wildlife Safety Act, which she co-authored. The Act makes it illegal to transport exotic cats across state lines or U.S. borders. In addition, Ms. Hedren has co-authored another bill, "A Federal Ban to Stop The Breeding Of The Exotic Felines For Personal Possession," which will be introduced to Congress in the very near future.

Although we are not offering MCLE credit for attendance at this event, we hope that you will take this opportunity to join us at UCLA Law School. The public is welcome to attend this event free of charge, but parking at UCLA is now $8 per vehicle.

UCLA Law School is located near the intersection of Hilgard Avenue and Wyton. Immediately after entering the campus on Wyton, there will be a parking kiosk, which is directly north of the law school building. Kiosk attendants will direct you to the nearest available parking and direct you to the Law School.

We look forward to seeing you at UCLA on April 9th!
