Back to TopWhat is an AED?
An AED is a small device that gives an electrical shock to a person without a pulse (such as a heart attack victim) in hopes of reestablishing an effective heart rhythm.
Back to TopHow much do your classes cost?
Classes cost $7 each for undergraduate students and $11 for graduate students, faculty, staff and the public. If you take more than one class, you must pay for each class. We accept cash only.
Back to TopDo I get certified after completing this course?
Yes. Successful course completion earns an American Heart Association Heartsaver Card valid for 2 years.
Back to TopWhat do I do if I lost my card or need a replacement?
You will need to send an email to uclacpr@ucla.edu that includes your name, the type of certification class you took, and the date of the class. After we receive your email, we will confirm with our records and tell you the instructions on how to pick up your replacement.
Back to TopHow long does my certification last for?
Heartsaver certification lasts for two (2) years.
Back to TopDo I have to stay for the entire length of the class?
Yes. Each Heartsaver course runs for 3 hours. Please arrive on time, or you may be turned away and asked to attend a later class.
Back to TopHow far in advance should I sign up for a class?
As early as possible. Enrollment is capped at 20 students per class and space goes quickly. The last day to pre-register is the last Wednesday before the class starts.
Back to TopWhy should I take a class from you instead of directly through the American Heart Association?
Two reasons: convenience and cost. First, the location is convenient. All our classes take place on Fridays or Saturdays in Ackerman Union. Some classes may be held in other classrooms on campus. Second, the cost is significantly cheaper. Heartsaver CPR and First Aid classes taken at a AHA Training Center costs the participant between $35 and $65. Our classes are offered at $7.00 each for undergrads, $11 for everyone else.
