Topiramate
Brand names: Topomax

Purpose: Topomax is a type of medication aimed at patients who suffer from seizures and migraine headaches. This medication can be taken solo or in combination with others as prescribed by your doctor and is geared to prevent and control these types of conditions.

Misconceptions: Topomax does not serve as a method to suppress headaches once it occurs in the patient. One must talk to their doctor for methods of suppression when a headache onsets.

Common Side Effects:
- Tingling in arms and legs
- Loss of appetite, diarrhea or nausea
- Weight loss

Serious Side Risks:
- Glaucoma
- Hyperventilation
- Increases acidity of blood
- Fatigue
- Kidney stones
- Sleepiness or dizziness

Other Considerations & Warnings: Any patients on birth control must be aware that this medication can decrease its effectiveness. Consult a doctor to assess risk factors.
