Promethazine HCl
Brand Names: Phenergan

Uses:
Phenergan, administered as tablets or suppositories, is used for inflammations of the mucous membrane of the nose (runny noses) caused by seasonal allergies and for inflammations of the eye (pinkeye) caused by airborne and food allergies. It is also used for mild skin allergies, surgical or obstetric sedation and treatment of motion sickness.

Drug Mechanism:
Promethazine is a derivative of phenothiazine that blocks histamine H1 receptors without blocking the secretion of histamine.

Side Effects:
Drowsiness is one of the most prominent side effects. Other side effects include increased or decreased blood pressure, faintness, dermatitis, skin photosensitivity, dry mouth, nausea, asthma, and nasal stuffiness.
