FROM THE EDITOR

The Undergraduate Psychology Journal of UCLA is excited to present the Fall 2002 premier issue. Once only a vision in the minds of undergraduates, this dream came to fruition through the hard work and dedication of the UPJ staff. Comprised of an amazing group of UCLA undergraduate and graduate students, these individuals believed in the potential of an undergraduate journal designed to showcase the talents of undergraduate researchers. More importantly, however, these individuals were inspired by the dedication of students involved in psychological research. These researchers are the ones who planted the seed of this journal, and we are excited to celebrate its emergence to life today.

The UPJ staff has worked intensely to ensure that the content of this journal is not only high quality, but interesting. This issue features a plethora of editorials, including undergraduate research articles, UCLA professor biographies, and a piece discussing the benefits of membership in a nationally recognized honor society called Psi Chi. Our hope is that it captures the readers interests while educating about issues in psychology.

The UPJ publishes writings from undergraduates anywhere in the nation. The only requirement is that submissions are related to some aspect of psychology. We want to give all undergraduates a chance to experience the publication process, including writing, editing, and revising. It is through this process that true learning occurs, and we are happy to facilitate this experience.

Though the road may have been bumpy at times, the adventure of producing an undergraduate journal has been extremely rewarding. We are proud of the talent within this journal and encourage more students to get involved. The little seed that once lay beneath the ground is growing into a fabulous journal that we aim to nourish everyday with dynamic ideas, new articles, and a positive outlook. We welcome you all to join in this process, shedding your light on a promising project.
