UCLA vs. UCSB B-Side Match — February 24, 2007

B-side game kicked off at 1:28 PM. Initial start was a bit rough around the edges, and our flat line defense fell short as UCSB scored quickly, no conversion attempted (there were no uprights). UCLA 0 — UCSB 5.

UCLA sorted a few things out, and despite playing quite a few first side UCSB players, held their own for the next 15 minutes with back and forth possessions in the yellow zone. Mirian, at scrumhalf, got off the scrum quickly and took down UCSB's scrum half after almost every scrum. Claire at flyhalf noticed their weaknesses on the fringe of the breakdowns, and had several runs up the middle. But the vets in UCSB's back line kept us from the try line, and poached twice for two quick scores. UCLA 0 — UCSB 15.

UCLA came back with all of their efforts, and pushed for 10 more minutes before a great pass from Pooja to Lotta at midfield. She tucked the ball under her arm, and we all watched as she sidestepped every single backline player for a "mazing" try. UCLA 5 — UCSB 15.

Play resumed, and UCLA was mustering up their efforts to score again as the whistle blew for the end of the shortened game. Ah, we could've played another 40 minutes and pulled it out, I know it!
